What this site is
WaterByTheBook publishes research and reference material about home water filtration: filter fitment, certification listings, and public water-quality data. Everything here is informational. Using the site does not create a professional relationship of any kind between you and us.
Not professional, medical or legal advice
Nothing on this site is medical advice, and nothing here tells you whether your water is safe to drink. When we report monitoring results, we are reporting what a water system reported to the EPA — occurrence data, not a compliance ruling and not a health verdict. System-level data is not a statement about your particular tap.
For health questions, consult a doctor or your local health department. For questions about your own water service, contact your utility. For plumbing or installation work, use a qualified professional and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for any equipment you install.
Accuracy, and the limits of it
We check numbers against primary sources — NSF, IAPMO and WQA certification listings, and the EPA’s public UCMR5 and SDWIS data — and we state the vintage of the data we publish. Certifications, product lines and water-quality results all change over time, and a page that was correct when written can go out of date. Confirm the model stamped on your own equipment, and check the current certification listing, before you buy anything.

Our data studies are computed over public-domain EPA data; the underlying data is public domain, while the analysis, grading and presentation are ours — attribution requested. Please do not scrape the site at a rate that degrades it for other readers, and do not republish whole pages as your own.

The site is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that it will be available without interruption, or that every figure on it is current. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from decisions made on the basis of material published here.
